Allego commits €100 million to expand UK charging network

Allego will invest €100 million to install up to 1,400 ultra-rapid EV chargers across the UK by 2030. The rollout will target high-traffic locations and densely populated urban areas, with London identified as a priority market.

Allego plans to partner with retailers, hospitality businesses and landowners, financing, building, owning and operating the charging infrastructure itself. Under the model, site owners receive a long-term lease payment while Allego assumes responsibility for the investment and operation of the charging hubs.

The company already applies this approach in partnerships with IKEA in Belgium, REWE in Germany and Burger King in France.

The investment is backed by long-term infrastructure investor Meridiam.

“This €100 million commitment reflects our confidence in the UK EV market,” said Steven Salo, Executive Officer at Allego. “The UK is electrifying quickly, but to keep up with demand the charging network must expand at the same pace. There is a clear need for more reliable, ultra-fast charging infrastructure, particularly along motorways and around the capital.”

The company also expects a supportive and stable policy environment to encourage further investment and enable continued growth of the charging sector.
