ABB E-Mobility and Elexon cooperate on depot charging infrastructure

ABB E-mobility and Elexon want to jointly support logistics companies and commercial vehicle fleets in electrifying their depots. To this end, the two companies in Germany and Austria are combining their offerings – from charging technology to planning, installation, operation, and service.

The two companies announced their strategic collaboration at the IAA Transportation event in Hannover. ABB E-mobility is contributing its DC charging technology to the partnership, while Elexon will handle analysis, consulting, technical planning, implementation, and subsequent operation, including service and support as well as energy and load management.

As a certified partner of ABB E-mobility, Elexon is qualified to install, commission, and service charging solutions — enabling fleet operators to have a single point of contact for their depot.

Elexon typically develops its own hardware and software for charging points and has them manufactured by production partners. However, the companies have not disclosed whether ABB’s technology will complement or replace parts of this portfolio in specific performance classes, nor have they addressed whether there will be a joint commercial offering beyond the certification.

“The depot decides whether an electrified fleet makes economic sense. Operators have to coordinate hardware, construction, grid connection and operation themselves, and that is exactly where projects fail,” explained Bruno Bourguet, President EMEA at ABB E-mobility. “Fleet operators need more than charging hardware – they need a reliable, integrated solution that works seamlessly from grid connection to daily operation,” said Marcus Scholz, CEO of Elexon.

The partners have not specified which products will be included in the joint offering. The announcement describes ABB E-mobility as one of the world’s leading manufacturers of high-performance DC charging infrastructure, providing fast-charging solutions tailored to the needs of commercial vehicle fleets. It remains unclear whether the cooperation will be limited to this or will also include AC charging points for extended downtime at depots.

Initially, the cooperation will cover Germany and Austria. In the long term, ABB E-mobility and Elexon aim to expand their collaboration to other European markets. At IAA Transportation, the partners are showcasing their joint offering in Hall 13 at Stand C11.
