Chinese automotive giant Geely announced on October 20 that it has built its millionth EX2 supermini just two years after entering production.

According to Geely’s timeline, it sold 200,000 EX2s by May 2025, 600,000 by March 2026, and a million by October this year. This translates to one sold almost every minute, making the EX2 one of the best-selling EVs of all time alongside the Tesla Model 3, Model Y, and the Nissan Leaf. Geely added that it sold its last 200,000 EX2s globally in just two months.

The manufacturing number refers to the total number of cars built globally, not just at its factory in Xiangtan, Hunan province, in China. Other countries that build the Geely EX2 include Malaysia, Brazil, and Belarus. From 2028, Euro-spec cars will be built at the Ford plant in Valencia as a result of Geely’s tie-up with the Blue Oval.

Known as the ‘Star Wish’ or ‘Xingyuan’ at home, Geely sold 10,000 EX2s in China just 16 days after order books opened, and it went on to become China’s best-selling car of 2025. As of August this year, the EX2 once again led the Chinese sales charts with 39,651 units sold that month alone.

That same August saw the EX2 go on sale in the UK, where it is priced at £20,990 for the base-spec Pro model. Mid-trim Max cars start at £23,490, while the flagship Ultra carries a £25,490 price tag.

Aimed firmly at the likes of the Volkswagen ID Polo, the Renault 5, and the Fiat Grande Panda, entry-level EX2s come with a 35kWh battery and a 155-mile range. Higher-trim models have a 47kWh pack, which boosts range to 214 miles.

While falling short on range compared to rivals, Geely hopes the EX2’s cheaper pricing and high levels of standard equipment will attract UK buyers. Unlike the Renault 5, the EX2 also has a frunk and 375 litres of boot space, around 50L more than the French car.

All versions come with an 8.8-inch driver instrument binnacle and a 14.6-inch central touchscreen, along with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, keyless entry, keyless go, and LED headlights. An illuminated blue cityscape across the black dashboard and door inserts is another part of the interior trim.

The range-topping Geely EX2 adds metal side skirts, 256 ambient lighting colours, a 360-degree camera with transparent chassis view, a six-speaker audio system, wireless phone charging, heated front seats and heated steering wheel, plus a two-tone paint finish.

The Geely EX2 is the brand’s fourth model to go on sale in the UK alongside the all-electric EX5 and the Monjaro and Starray plug-in hybrid (PHEV) SUVs. It aims to have a portfolio of 10 UK models by 2029 and has set itself the target of achieving 100,000 UK sales in 2030.
