4WD Jeep Compass 4xe priced from £45,200 with 372-mile range

Jeep has confirmed that pricing for its new four-wheel-drive (4WD) 4xe C-segment SUV will start at £45,200 for the entry-level Upland trim, with order books now open.

The Compass 4xe is the Stellantis-owned US firm’s all-electric answer to the Skoda Enyaq and the Toyota C-HR+, and this 4WD model features a clever electric powertrain with motors on both the front and rear axles. Named Select-Terrain, Jeep’s trademarked system sends power to the wheel that needs it most when it begins to lose traction, much like Audi’s Quattro and Nissan’s e-4ORCE systems do.

Jeep’s twin-motor powertrain can also achieve permanent four-wheel-drive (4WD), named ‘4WD Lock’, as one of Select-Terrain’s five drive modes. Other drive modes include Auto, Sport, Sand & Mud, and Snow.

The 4WD Compass 4xe retains Jeep’s legendary off-road DNA with a 480mm wading depth, a 31-degree approach angle, a 28-degree departure angle, a 17-degree breakover angle, and 210mm ground clearance.

In terms of standard kit, Jeep’s Upland trim is the more rugged of the two trim levels on offer. Standard black 19-inch alloy wheels with mud and snow tyres, off-road bumpers, a rear towing hook, front fog lights, roof rails, plus LED headlights and a heated windscreen give the Upland a more rugged external aesthetic.

Inside, the seats are upholstered in black-and-brown cloth and, like the steering wheel, are heated. When it comes to tech, front and rear parking sensors, lane-assist, and adaptive cruise control are standard, while an 11kW three-phase onboard charger and a heat pump to extract precious extra miles during the colder months are part of the 4xe Upland’s pricing.

Step up to the range-topping £47,900 4xe Overland 4WD, and the additional £2,700 introduces some more premium touches inside and out. The mud-and-snow tyres surround diamond-cut 19-inch alloy wheels, while the exterior benefits from LED Matrix headlamps, an illuminated version of Jeep’s signature seven-slot grille, LED tail lights, and surrounding privacy glass.

The black-and-tan seating is now upholstered in vegan leather (vinyl, if you don’t speak car marketing), and the front seats are electronically adjustable eight ways. A tan centre console and ambient cabin lighting add to the cabin, while a reverse parking camera builds on the Upland’s existing tech.

Jeep offers the 4WD Compass 4xe with one battery, a 96kWh pack capable of 372 miles from a single charge. The twin-motor setup offers 370bhp, with the front motor producing 207.6bhp, and the rear unit generating 174.5bhp.

A front-wheel-drive (FWD) version of the Compass is also available, and pairs a front axle-mounted 210bhp electric motor with a 74kWh battery to offer a 285-mile range.
