The first-ever all-electric Volkswagen ID. Polo GTI goes official
Volkswagen has opened a new chapter in the 50‑year history of its iconic GTI badge with the world premiere of the all‑new, fully electric ID. Polo GTI. Revealed at the 24‑hour race at the Nürburgring, the near‑production concept marks the first time the GTI formula has been applied to an electric small car - combining instant torque, compact dimensions, and unmistakable GTI character. At the heart of the ID. Polo GTI is a 166 kW (226 PS) electric motor delivering 290 Nm to the front axle, launching the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.8 seconds. Volkswagen pairs this performance with a 52 kWh battery offering up to 424 km of WLTP range, supported by DC fast charging at up to 105 kW. A particularly stable charging curve allows a 10–80% top‑up in around 24 minutes, reinforcing the model's everyday usability. True to GTI tradition, the chassis is engineered for agility. Standard equipment includes an electronically controlled front differential lock, adaptive DCC sports suspension, and progressive steering. A new GTI driving profile, activated via a button on the sports steering wheel, sharpens the power delivery, steering, and damping while switching the cockpit to a dedicated colour and graphics theme. Visually, the ID. Polo GTI reinterprets classic cues through Volkswagen’s new Pure Positive design language. A red front stripe, illuminated VW badge, IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlights and honeycomb air intake establish its identity at a glance. The silhouette features the signature Volkswagen C‑pillar, while the rear gains a split roof spoiler, 3D LED tail lights, and a muscular diffuser. Inside, the GTI atmosphere continues with red accents, tartan‑inspired sport seats, a redesigned GTI steering wheel with a 12‑o’clock marker and illuminated GTI emblem, and a retro‑themed digital cockpit mode that transforms the instruments into a homage to the original Golf I. A 12.9‑inch infotainment display anchors the cabin, also capable of adopting retro graphics. Despite its compact footprint, the ID. Polo GTI offers more space than the combustion‑engine Polo GTI thanks to its optimized electric platform. Luggage capacity rises to 441 litres, expanding to 1240 litres with the rear seats folded. Towing capability reaches 1.2 tonnes, and a detachable tow hook supports bicycle carriers with two e‑bikes. Optional features include a Harman Kardon 425‑watt audio system, panoramic sunroof, 12‑way electric seats with pneumatic massage and Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres developed specifically for the model. Advanced driver assistance is also available, including the new Connected Travel Assist, which uses online data to recognize red traffic lights and can bring the vehicle to a stop within system limits. Pre‑sales for the ID. Polo GTI will begin in Germany this autumn, with pricing expected to start just under €39,000. With its blend of electric performance, everyday practicality, and unmistakable GTI DNA, Volkswagen positions the ID. Polo GTI as the spiritual successor to the original 1976 Golf GTI - this time built for an electric future. Volkswagen opens the pre-order books for the entry-level ID.
