Jaguar Type 01 makes world premiere in New York, marking the start of the brand's electric era

Jaguar has revealed the Type 01, an all-electric luxury four-door grand tourer that the British automaker describes as the beginning of a new era for the brand. Unveiled during a high-profile world premiere in New York City, the production model combines dramatic design, a dedicated electric platform, and more than 1,000PS of power in what Jaguar calls its most technologically advanced road car to date.
The launch represents the first production vehicle developed under Jaguar's renewed design philosophy and the first model to be built on the new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Developed exclusively for electric vehicles, the platform was created to enable the proportions, performance, and interior packaging Jaguar envisioned for its next generation of luxury cars.
Visually, the Type 01 departs from conventional EV design with a low roofline, long bonnet, short front overhang, extended rear overhang, and large 23-inch wheels. Jaguar says the vehicle was conceived from a blank sheet of paper and refined through extensive aerodynamic development, resulting in a drag coefficient of just 0.23, making it the most aerodynamic production Jaguar ever created. Active aerodynamic vanes, a three-stage deployable rear spoiler, and extensive airflow optimization all contribute to its efficiency and stability.
Power comes from a tri-motor electric drivetrain featuring intelligent torque vectoring. Output reaches up to 1,030PS and 1,365Nm of torque, allowing the Type 01 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds. Jaguar emphasizes that the car's performance is not defined solely by its launch figures, highlighting its ability to accelerate from 100 km/h to 180 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, delivering what the company describes as a constant sense of power in reserve. Knowledge gained from Jaguar TCS Racing's Formula E program was also applied during development.
A usable 118 kWh battery pack and 850-volt electrical architecture underpin the vehicle's long-distance credentials. Jaguar estimates an EPA driving range of up to 400 miles, while 350kW DC fast charging can add as much as 200 miles of range in approximately 13 minutes. According to the company, the battery capacity and charging capability are intended to allow owners to complete the vast majority of journeys without stopping to recharge.
Inside, Jaguar has taken an unconventional approach to luxury. A prominent central spine divides the cabin into four individual occupant spaces, reinforced by brass-inspired design elements that extend the full length of the interior. The dashboard is dominated by a 24-inch glass OLED display that serves as the Interactive Driver Display, complemented by a secondary seven-inch touchscreen positioned between the front occupants. Jaguar's new infotainment system is paired with an immersive audio setup featuring what the company describes as the automotive industry's first full-width, full-range Panoramic Soundbar, along with Sensory Audio-integrated seats.
Engineering played a central role in bringing the vehicle from concept to production. Jaguar says the Type 01 required more than 360 patent applications and was developed around the original design vision rather than adapting an existing architecture. The company also highlights a 50:50 weight distribution and dual-character driving experience intended to balance performance with long-distance refinement.
The New York premiere was designed as a statement of intent for the brand. Jaguar took over multiple locations across the city with large-scale digital installations before the Type 01 made its public arrival at STORIED in West Chelsea. Guests explored exhibits illustrating the vehicle's development, including displays focused on its original design sketch, engineering process, and extensive testing program. The reveal culminated with a dynamic arrival driven by Formula E racer António Félix da Costa.
The event also introduced actress Florence Pugh as Jaguar's first brand ambassador of the new era. Jaguar said the partnership reflects the originality, creativity, and fearlessness it wants to associate with its future identity. Guests were additionally treated to a performance by singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro, winner of the Best New Artist award at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, while chef Roze Traoré curated a bespoke culinary experience inspired by the company's new creative direction.
"Type 01 is the foundation of the brand, one that makes no compromise between design and engineering in our quest to reinvent Jaguar for the 21st century," said Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar. He described the model as a car that distills the essence of Jaguar into a luxury grand tourer for a new generation.
Designed, engineered, and built in the United Kingdom, the Type 01 is positioned as the first model in a new family of electric Jaguars. Its name references both the company's heritage and future, with "Type" acknowledging iconic predecessors, "0" signifying zero tailpipe emissions, and "1" marking the first vehicle in a new generation. Orders are scheduled to open in early 2027, with prices starting at £130,000 and first customer deliveries expected during the second half of the year.
