IONIQ 3 enters mass production at Hyundai Motor Türkiye's plant in İzmit

IONIQ 3 enters mass production at Hyundai Motor Türkiye's plant in İzmit

Hyundai Motor Türkiye has officially begun production of the all‑new IONIQ 3, marking a major milestone in the company's accelerating shift toward electric mobility. The first units rolled off the assembly line at the İzmit plant this week, signaling the start of mass production for Hyundai’s second locally manufactured electric model in Türkiye.

The launch follows a significant investment programme aimed at strengthening the country's role in Hyundai's global EV strategy. Earlier this year, the company announced a €715 million investment package, including a new battery assembly facility that will support IONIQ 3 production. The İzmit plant, Hyundai’s first overseas manufacturing site, has produced more than 3.3 million vehicles since 1997 and now stands at the center of the brand’s regional electrification plans.

The IONIQ 3 enters production with two battery options and a design tailored for European customers, combining Hyundai's latest EV technologies with a compact, urban‑friendly form factor. Hyundai Motor Türkiye expects strong demand for the model, which will be available for purchase starting in September.

Company leadership emphasized the strategic importance of the new EV programme. The start of IONIQ 3 production not only expands Hyundai's electric lineup but also reinforces Türkiye's growing capabilities in advanced automotive manufacturing. The new battery plant, operated in cooperation with Hyundai Mobis, will assemble both NMC and LFP cells using automated systems, increasing local expertise and supporting future electric and hybrid models.

With production now underway, Hyundai Motor Türkiye is preparing for a rapid scale‑up. The company plans to manufacture 27,000 units this year and more than 40,000 units in 2027, positioning the IONIQ 3 as a key contributor to Hyundai's European EV portfolio.

Hyundai Motor Türkiye expands with new battery plant for IONIQ 3 production

Hyundai Motor Türkiye is deepening its commitment to electric mobility with a major new investment that will add a battery assembly plant to its long‑running İzmit production hub. The facility, which forms part of a broader €715 million investment package tied to the upcoming IONIQ 3, will initially create jobs for more than 300 people and strengthen the country's role in Hyundai's global EV supply chain. The...

Electric vehicle (EV) sales in the U.S. are booming - and Tesla and General Motors (GM) are at the front of the pack. Why the sudden surge? Automakers in North America are increasingly reducing on‑the‑road prices for battery electric vehicles by amounts close to the former $7,500 federal tax credit.
