Chroma adds GB/T 27930 charge playback to its PowerPro 5 platform

Chroma has added a charge playback function to its PowerPro 5 test software, letting engineers replay CAN (Controller Area Network) communication data captured from real charging sessions through the Chroma 8000 test system. Chroma says the function complies with GB/T 27930, and it reproduces a recorded session on the bench for validation and debugging.

Chargers and vehicles built to the same charging standard can still fail to complete a session, because each side may interpret the protocol differently. A charger that works with one automaker’s vehicles can stall on another’s. Chroma says engineers have typically had to capture communication data during these abnormal events and work backward through large logs to find the cause, a process it describes as slow and dependent on individual experience.

With the playback function, Chroma says an engineer can import the data captured from a failed charging event, recreate that scenario in the lab and validate a fix once it is applied. The function builds on what Chroma describes as its established compliance testing capabilities, and the company says it shortens analysis cycles and reduces uncertainty in debugging. The system supports the data formats used for these captures, including .blf, .asc, .txt and .csv, so existing communication logs can be reused instead of recaptured.

Chroma also positions the captured data as the basis for a virtual database of EVs and charging equipment. By digitizing how different vehicles and chargers behave over the CAN link, teams can build a library of charging scenarios and lean less on physical hardware for each test.
