APM Terminals Elizabeth orders 96 electric terminal tractors from Orange EV

Why has Orange EV thrived while other commercial EV startups dropped like fruit flies? The company started by identifying an application that was ideal for EVs—terminal trucks, aka yard dogs—and patiently executed through years of pilots. Today the company has some 2,000 electric trucks in service, and is regularly announcing new orders.
Earlier this summer, APM Terminals Los Angeles (Pier 400), followed up a year-long 20-truck rental pilot with an order for 40 more units, bringing its electric fleet to 60 trucks. Last week, Greenwich Terminals, operator of the Packer Avenue Marine Terminal in South Philadelphia, made a deal for two dozen Oranges.
The latest news: APM Terminals Elizabeth has placed an order for 96 trucks, one of Orange’s largest sales to date. The HUSK-e XP units will be manufactured at Orange EV’s production facility in Kansas City, Kansas, and are compliant with the Build America, Buy America Act (BABA) requirements. Each truck is purpose-built for heavy port and terminal operations, capable of moving up to 180,000 lbs of combined weight. Each features a 310 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, the largest available pack in the Orange EV lineup.
“These deals reflect the same shift taking hold at ports on both coasts: electrification of yard trucks is no longer just being tested—it’s being scaled,” says Orange EV. “Operators who spent the last several years piloting electric terminal trucks are now standardizing fleet-wide.”
Orange EV CEO Kurt Neutgens sees “evidence of an inflection point in ports, as operators move past the pilot and testing phase to standardize around Orange EV’s turnkey solution. Many port operators are accelerating because the Orange EV real-world data shows the business case for electrification and the environmental case align.”
